Research
In addition to managing and presenting the collection, scientific research is one of our three core tasks. We work together with scientists from all over the world. But our own curators are also academically trained and conduct research. Together we increase the collective maritime knowledge.
Maritime women
In 2023-2024, Irene Jacobs, one of our senior curators, conducted research into women in the maritime sector on the basis of a museum grant from the NWO (the Netherlands Organisation for Scientific Research). It was the start of broader research into the role and significance of women in the maritime sector from our own museum collection, which is thus better mapped and provides valuable input for the exhibition on Maritime Women that opens in 2025.
