What else can be said about her maritime life?
In 1823, she married Captain Eildert Bergman (1802/3–1851), and the couple had three children. She came from a maritime family; her father also sailed as a merchant marine captain, and she passed on the maritime tradition: both her eldest son, Harmen Tevis (an “illegitimate” child), and her youngest son, Jan Bergman, became mates or captains, and her second son, Cornelis, was a mate’s apprentice when he died young. Jan Bergman also married Maria Otto from the well-known shipbuilding family, which was related to the Van der Giessen shipbuilding family. It is unknown whether Wiepkje Tevis pursued any education or held a job, nor what caused her death at the age of 41.
