Maria Wilhelmina Johanna Soulier (1929-2001)
Maria Wilhelmina Johanna (Mary) Soulier (1929-2001) worked from 1959 to 1965 as a nanny and occasionally as a stewardess on board the cruise ships Maasdam (IV), Nieuw Amsterdam (II), Rijndam (II) and Statendam (IV) of the Holland-America Line. She made a total of 54 voyages.
She had dreamed of sailing for years, to see something of the world. She succeeded: through her work she has been to North, Central and South America, Canada, Scandinavia, Portugal and other countries around the Mediterranean.
Through her work she also spoke English and French. She made several scrapbooks of her travels, full of photos, notes and other memories of her travels. She was "an elegant, dignified woman, a real Hague lady", according to a family member, very nice with children, and very sociable.
